About

Biofuels are fuels produced from living organisms. One of the first biofuels, generally called bioethanol, is produced by growing crops such as sugar cane, corn or wheat and using their sugar to generate alcohols. These are burned much like fossil fuels, though ethanol can be added into existing fuel systems as an octane enhancer, reducing the need for other performance additives, although it is technically classed as an additive rather than compliant fuel.
